Learning to Respond, Not React: Embracing Wisdom Through Processing
Life has a way of teaching us the same lesson until we truly learn it. Yesterday was a significant day for me—one that highlighted how far I’ve come in choosing to process my emotions instead of letting them reinforce old fears and anxieties. It was a day full of emotions and lessons, underscoring the importance of responding rather than reacting—using the right tools to navigate challenges with clarity and presence.
The day began with an overwhelming sense of unease, anger, and frustration. I woke up feeling off, as if something wasn’t right. This wasn’t the first time I’d experienced this—far from it. But instead of letting it paralyze me, I chose to be present with it, to understand what it was trying to tell me.
My intuition urged me to check on a delivery, something that seemed minor but felt critical in the moment. So, I acted on that feeling, trusting that my inner voice was guiding me toward something important. Because I listened, I was able to change the outcome. The shipment, which could have been rejected and destroyed as it crossed international borders, is now on its way back to us.
Recalling the delivery was a difficult decision. I was upset by the number of things that had gone wrong—out of my control, yet ultimately my responsibility. After the call, I was so angry I could barely speak. But then, in that moment of turmoil, I heard a little voice from within saying, “It’s going to work out for the best. Trust me.”
This was the moment where I had a choice: to let fear and anger reprogram my mind or to process them, discern the truth, and release their grip.
The Power of Presence: Changing the Outcome
By being present with what I was feeling—really sitting with the discomfort—I was able to use the tools I’ve developed over the years. Instead of succumbing to fear and anger, I discerned that these emotions were pointing to an old pattern, an unconscious programming that needed to be reset. Recognizing this allowed me to respond differently, changing the outcome rather than repeating the past.
I wasn’t just reacting out of fear and anger; I understood that these emotions were old responses, rooted in a time when I felt powerless. This time, I knew I had the power to change the narrative. I could listen to my intuition, process the insight it offered, and respond in a way that aligned with the wisdom I’ve gained.
Processing vs. Programming: The Power of Discernment
This experience brought me back to a pivotal moment from my past, one I had unknowingly carried with me for years. After a night of celebration with my hockey team, I was struck by a sudden sense of dread. Feeling an urgent need to ensure everyone got home safely, I took action. The next morning, I received devastating news: our hockey manager, Tracey, had been in a car accident and died. Although I never consciously felt guilty, I now realize I had been carrying that weight unconsciously for years.
Yesterday’s experience offered me the opportunity to reset this old programming. I released the guilt from Tracey’s accident and the burden of other people’s mistakes and intentions to hurt. This morning, I woke up not with dread about the delivery, but with a deep sense of knowing that I had trusted myself and turned the situation around. Getting the package back was the better outcome.
Turning Insight into Wisdom: The Role of a Coach
As a coach, I guide people to trust themselves by helping them understand their intuition and wisdom. Intuition is a powerful tool we all have, but it’s not just about listening to it—it’s about understanding it. It’s about processing the insights we receive without letting them turn into unconscious programming that creates fear, anxiety, or repeated patterns.
When we don’t take the time to process our intuitive insights, they can solidify into patterns of fear or anxiety that influence our actions unconsciously. But when we discern the truth of our intuition, we transform those insights into wisdom that guides us, rather than letting them become fears that limit us.
Embracing Intuition as a Guide
Yesterday, I realized that it’s not just about seeing the future or predicting outcomes—it’s about understanding the information we receive, using the right tools, and being present enough to respond thoughtfully. It’s about embracing intuition as a guide, not something to be feared.
By unlearning old programming that told me to be afraid, I’ve learned to approach these moments with calm and trust. I’ve learned that I do have the power to change outcomes, but it starts with how I choose to respond to the insights and wisdom that come my way.
The Journey of Unlearning and Growth
This is the journey I now help others navigate. As a coach, I guide people in trusting their intuition, discerning the truth of their insights, and turning those insights into wisdom that empowers them. I also help them process their experiences, preventing the creation of unconscious programming that limits them.
Through this process, we learn not just to react, but to respond. We learn to grow, thrive, and use our wisdom as a guide to live more intentional, fulfilled lives. The path of unlearning fear and embracing intuition is not always easy, but it’s one of the most rewarding journeys we can take.
Every experience, no matter how difficult, is an opportunity to learn, grow, and move forward with greater understanding. Yesterday reminded me of that truth, and for that, I am grateful.
