May 21, 2024What does Trust mean to you ?
Hope you are having an exceptional day.
This morning, I was discussing with a client who asked me, “What does trust mean to you?” Reflecting on this question, I realized that over time, my trust has been broken many times, leading me to deeply explore why this kept happening. A significant reason is understanding how the brain’s adaptations to chronic stress or trauma can lead to the development of unhealthy coping strategies. These strategies often result in us continuing to break trust with ourselves, especially evident from early childhood experiences and when being an empath. We tend to prioritize other people’s feelings over our own, leading us to trust others first and not ourselves primarily. It is vital to retrain the brain, create healthy coping mechanisms, and simultaneously rebuild this trust with yourself. That’s when you build true trust, confidence, and self-belief within oneself.
My Version of What Trust Means to Me
“Trust is a sacred dance with yourself and others; it’s a way of connecting that transforms all connections. It moves you through difficult situations and transforms past stresses or traumatic experiences, creating space to breathe and perform at your full potential. Trust allows you to listen, to hear your inner knowing. It enables you to build a sacred connection with all parts of yourself; it’s the glue that holds you together. Trust allows you to believe in your magic, understand your magic, and ensure no one gets in the way of your uniqueness.
While others may try to impose their ways, thoughts, and feelings on you, it is trust that separates and allows you to be distinctly you. It is only when you harness this trust—building this muscle—that you will understand your truest self, your uniqueness. You will feel you, not what you think you are, but who you actually are. That is the magic, the juicy sauce, the magic that is you.”
I have always loved this video explaining trust from two Cirque du Soleil dancers. It beautifully illustrates the essence of trust and its power to enhance our connections and performance.
